When students come to visit at the museum one of the activities they do is drill.
Military drill was used to instill discipline in schools. In the Report to the Minister of Public Instruction 1880, it was reported that due to the unsatisfactory progress of the teaching of military drill in public schools, “the order and general discipline of our schools is not what they ought to be”. It was considered that “a knowledge of elementary drill is so essential, that the discipline of no school can be considered satisfactory in which it is not imparted”.
